Blackwater Conservation Group

The aims of the Group are to facilitate and coordinate the work of conservation and environmental protection of the Blackwater and its surrounding area by working with other relevant organisations and volunteer groups in order to protect the landscape and ecology of the Blackwater Valley for future generations.

Our activities include the following:

• Monitor the river water for pollutants via chemical analysis.
• Monitor the health of the river by sampling for and analysing the presence of invertebrates.
• Aiming to eradicate Himalayan Balsam wherever it occurs within the environs of the river.
• Monitor and recommend further action to landowners for the better protection of the local ecology.
• Encourage the involvement of other volunteer groups, including young people, in the work of the Group.
• Exchange information and advice and cooperate with other similar organisations or groups.

Blackwater Conservation Group

The object of our group is to protect the landscape and ecology of the Blackwater Valley for future generations. We are a group of conservation volunteers concerned in particular about the environmental effects of water pollution and invasive species on the River Blackwater.
