Family Trees

*Please note, the next Family Trees event is currently under consideration due to Covid-19. For latest updates please sign up to our newsletter.*

Our annual Family Trees event gives people the chance to celebrate a loved one by planting a tree.

Families are invited to celebrate a birth, marriage, civil partnership or life of a relative by planting a seed from a native tree in woodland or their own garden.

Trees and woodlands are a key feature of the natural beauty of the New Forest and they make an important contribution to the appearance of its towns and villages.

The right tree can be a fantastic feature in your garden and will attract wildlife for years to come.

At a Family Trees event you will collect and plant tree seeds (oak, beech, sweet chestnut, field maple, birch etc) in temporary newspaper pots or seed balls.

Collecting local seeds is more sustainable than sourcing trees from elsewhere, plus the seeds will be of local prominence and some may even be from significant mature trees in the National Park, such as the oak trees at Moyles Court (on open land).

You will take your seeds home with instructions on how to care for them and hopefully you will return to plant your thriving sapling at a later Family Trees event or in your garden.
