Historic parks and gardens
English Heritage compiles a register of parks and gardens that are of particular importance, to safeguard the particular features and qualities that make them important. Sites are graded I, II* and II. Those sites on the register in the National Park are:
- Avon Tyrell II
- Brockenhurst Park II
- Cadland House II*
- Exbury House II*
- Hale Park II*
- Pylewell Park II*
- Rhinefield II
No statutory controls follow from the inclusion of a site in English Heritage’s register but local planning authorities are required to protect registered parks and gardens in determining planning applications.
The effect of a proposed development on a registered park or garden or its setting is a material consideration in planning decisions.
There are 78 further sites on the Hampshire Register of gardens of historic interest.
