National Trust

The National Trust works to preserve the New Forest Northern Commons through practical conservation, learning and discovery, and encouraging visitors to enjoy the area every year.

We look after 4000 acres of the New Forest and manage its lowland heathland habitats to benefit a range of rare wildlife such as Dartford Warblers and Smooth Snakes, as well as the historic landscape. Volunteer roles include Practical Conservation, Species Surveying, Community/Events and many others.

Volunteer practical tasks can include scrub management using hand tools, maintenance of tree planting, estate maintenance tasks etc. We will also support volunteers with any particular interests of skills that are of use to our work. We also have opportunities for community volunteers for those who would like to look after certain sites.
