Milford Conservation Volunteers
We work locally at various nature reserves around Milford, including the Pleasure Grounds (woodlands), Studland Common, Studland Meadow, Sturt Pond and ‘Baskets’. We have produced our own Milford-on-Sea Biodiversity Plan.
We undertake projects to improve the local environment, enhance biodiversity and encourage a new generation of conservationists:
- Record bird numbers at various local sites
- Survey butterflies and moths
- Record plant species present on Studland Common
- Carry out scrub clearance to enhance plant and insect diversity
- Remove some fallen and cleared timber-producing logs
- Improve access to Pleasure Grounds by maintaining the footpath network
- Manage two bird hides at Sturt Pond and Keyhaven
- Produce a regular newsletter to inform and educate our membership.
- Remove invasive non-native aquatic plants
- Carry out work on a local Biodiversity Action Plan
- Organise guided boat tours of local salt marshes
