Partnership area
The landscape partnership area shares the National Park Boundary as this is the functioning area of the Forest’s unique commoning system.
Approximately half of the National Park is Crown Lands which are managed by Forestry England for conservation, recreation and the rural economy.
At 569 square kilometres, the scheme recognises that this is in excess of the recommended size for a landscape partnership area. In order to focus resources to maximum impact, the partners agreed that the on-the-ground habitat restoration works and access improvement works is focused on those areas surrounding the Open Forest (this equates to approximately 50% of the National Park area) which are at much greater risk.
