Volunteering opportunities for 18-30 year olds

Volunteering opportunities for 18-30 year olds

Are you aged 18-30, passionate about nature, living in or around the New Forest and keen to get outside for some practical experience?

It can be difficult for young people to access traditional volunteering opportunities, due to their times or locations.

So, we’re now providing volunteering opportunities specifically designed for young people, as part of our Youth for Climate and Nature (YouCAN) scheme.

When

These new sessions will be held on a weekend day or weekday evening, so you can join in around your work or study commitments.

Where

Wherever possible, they’ll be more accessible by public transport. Encouraging use of more sustainable transport options is also in line with our Net Zero targets within the National Park.

You’ll even have chance to join some virtual sessions.

Activities

You might already have some volunteering experience and a good idea of the activities you’d like to do, or you might be looking to volunteer for the first time and hoping for some inspiration and to try a range of experiences.

This will be a creative programme of volunteering tasks to give you some insight into the many ways you can get involved in supporting nature and climate action in our National Park.

Themes include wildlife conservation, countryside access, engagement, citizen science and the arts. You can expect activities such as clearing paths, removing invasive species, conducting surveys, creating art projects and more.

You’re welcome to join specific sessions, or come along to try everything out. We’ll also signpost you to further volunteering opportunities with other organisations in areas where you’d like to get more experience.

Training

You don’t need any previous experience to join in with the new sessions. You just need to be happy being outside for a few hours, learning new things, working with new people and listening to our instructions.

We’ll provide any necessary training on the day – including, for example, using hand tools correctly and safely.

There’ll be further opportunities for relevant training as the programme goes on.

Extra support

If there’s anything further we can do or adapt so you can join our volunteering events in the future, please do get in touch to discuss this with us or share your ideas. Email:education@newforestnpa.gov.uk

Please complete this application form to sign up as New Forest National Park Authority volunteer. Once approved you can then book onto relevant events.

This programme of events is specifically for those aged 18-30. We’re working on providing more volunteer opportunities for everyone which will be available in the coming months.
