The Alice Project – Calling all Alices
Calling all Alices! Whether it’s your first name, surname, middle name, or nickname. Come and discover your inner Alice…
If Alice is anywhere in your name and you live, or have lived, in The New Forest area in the past, then we would love to hear from you.
It doesn’t matter how young or old you are, on 4th May 2024, 2.30pm-5.30pm we would like to invite you to the first ever New Forest ‘Gathering of Alice’s’ at the New Forest Heritage Centre in Lyndhurst.
You’ll be able to meet and chat to other Alice’s and be part of an exciting new Alice Project. There will be complimentary tea, cakes, magical mocktails (of course!), and fun for all ages with games and craft activities.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a project inspired by Alice in Wonderland but one that also celebrates YOU! Have a go in the mirror photobooth, dress up and play around with sounds. You do not need to be artistic or creative – you just need to be called Alice!
Schedule:
2.30pm: Alice Welcome Tea Party
2.30pm-5.00pm: Fun transformation activities
4.00pm: Come together for a ‘Sounds of Alice’ workshop
5.00pm-5.30pm: Celebration mocktail and group photograph
And then… you’ll be invited back on 19th October to hear your voices woven into a new sound piece for The Alice Project, touring the UK in Spring 2025.
Platform 4’s new Alice Project performance will be full of fun, surreal adventure, plus all the elements of Alice that we’re so familiar with. It will weave Lewis Carroll’s text with freshly created music and all sorts of unusual instruments and interviews with fascinating people! Aimed at adults and young people – for the curious and the curiouser….
Why Alice?
Did you know that the ‘real’ Alice from Wonderland – Alice Liddell – lived near Lyndhurst and is buried in the church there? She is part of the cultural heritage of the area and as a modern-day Alice, in a way, so are you.
Alice in Wonderland is all about identity and transformation. Join a chat with other Alice’s to discover what you have in common with them, how you feel about your name and whether this is a time in your life when you think you are transforming in some way? Bring an object to represent yourself if you like.
Who are we?
Platform 4 are a nationally acclaimed performance company who have been creating unique, bespoke projects for 27 years. This new project inspired by Alice in Wonderland, is a gig theatre piece which will tour the UK in Spring 2025. What is gig theatre? – it is a cross between a concert and theatre experience.
The New Forest Heritage Centre is in Lyndhurst and since 1988 has been a hub where local people and visitors can discover more about the New Forest, its history, its customs, its people, its wildlife and its future. In its collection are a magnificent gilt-edged mirror that once belonged to Alice, and a variety of books and items given to the Centre by the Lewis Carroll Society.
