Community involvement

All local planning authorities are required to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) setting out how they will engage with local residents, businesses and other organisations in their work, including the development of planning policy documents and the determination of planning applications.

The Authority adopted its first SCI in 2007.  Since then there have been significant changes within the national planning system and it was considered necessary to update the document.  Updating the document also provided the opportunity to set out how people can get involved in the development of the Authority’s other plans and strategies.

A seven week public consultation on a draft revised document was held between 4 October and 22 November 2013.  The responses received during the consultation period resulted in a number of proposed changes to the draft document and these proposed changes (shown in the Statement of Consultation) were added to the document.

The document, incorporating the proposed changes was formally adopted by the Authority on 12 December 2013.  Copies of the SCI and Statement of Consultation are available to download and are also available by contacting:
