New Forest Awakening Festival 2021 – event recordings

In February 2021, we hosted the first Awakening Festival, a month-long virtual festival focusing on the climate and nature emergencies.

Hundreds of people tuned in to the virtual events. If you missed them, or would like another look, here’s a chance to see or hear them again:

  •  Forest Awakening – New Forest Sounds New Forest Awakens soundscape: Pop on some headphones and find a comfy chair to tune into this soundscape created by Dr Clive Brooks, of New Forest Sounds fame. An ideal experience for those looking for a touch of mindfulness and to get in touch with nature from the comfort of your own home

 

  • Basic Seed Sowing – YouTube Seed show with Patrick’s Patch. Join Rachel, Fairweather’s Head Gardener in Patrick’s Patch, for an online zoom session on sowing early vegetables and herbs in seed trays, modular trays and raised beds.   • WATCH — MOTHERLOAD (motherloadmovie.com) Screening of Motherload film. MOTHERLOAD is a crowdsourced documentary in which the cargo bicycle becomes a vehicle for exploring motherhood in this digital age of climate change

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • The Secret Forest – RSPB Franchises Lodge. Step inside the RSPB’s secret forest Franchises Lodge in the north of the National Park.This new nature reserve was acquired in 2018 with help from the New Forest National Park Authority. Few people have visited this ‘secret forest’, a 1,000-acre woodland at Franchises Lodge near Nomansland, which is the size of over 1,300 football pitches

 

  • Facebook Live: The Commoning Year Take a virtual farm and Forest tour with New Forest commoner Lyndsey Stride. Learn about commoning and how continual grazing by commoners’ animals over hundreds of years has contributed to the biodiversity of the New Forest

 

  • Ground nesting birds – why are they so special? – YouTube Ground nesting birds – Forestry England Ranger Amy Howells and Keeper Lee Knight explain the importance of these rarest birds. The New Forest is home to some of the UK’s rarest wildlife including ground nesting birds who come here to breed each year. Now only found in a few places across the UK, their success in breeding here has become critical to their long term survival. In this session, Forestry England Ranger Amy Howells and Keeper Lee Knight discuss why the New Forest is so important to these birds and how we can all play a part in ensuring they remain here

 

  • Dog Poo Video with NFNPA Ranger, Dawn Rayment – YouTube  Love the Forest? Love your Dog? Love picking up that poop? A talk about the real consequences of not cleaning up after your dog in the forest. People and Wildlife Ranger Dawn Rayment is both a Ranger who has dedicated her career to conservation, but also a dog owner of our own Bark Ranger Cooper. In this talk Dawn explains why the issue of dog poop in the Forest is one we should be taking seriously

 

 

  • Facebook Live: Chef demonstration  New Forest Hotels group head chef David Palmer showcases some of the amazing local produce available in line with the New Forest Marque by demonstrating how he creates his delicious roast pannage pork with honey glazed vegetables
