Pennington Community Allotment
Tucked away in Pennington, this peaceful, hidden gem community allotment is a welcoming green space where a wide variety of fruit and veg are grown.
The harvest is shared among our volunteers. We use no-dig methods and collect community kitchen waste to make our own high-quality compost, turning it into potting and seed compost too. We are, and always have been, proudly peat-free gardeners, and we’re currently trialling different brands of peat-free compost to see how they perform.
We meet on Wednesday mornings (and sometimes weekends), enjoy coffee breaks with produce we’ve grown, and even boil the kettle using our own solar power! We have a mini orchard and hold a popular Apple Pressing Day each autumn.
We’re big on wildlife too, with pollinator-friendly flowers, a large insect hotel, and successful solitary bee boxes. We survey bumblebees for the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and currently monitor for Asian hornets. We’re pleased to be NHS green therapy providers, and we always offer a warm welcome to new faces.
