Village design statements
A Village Design Statement (VDS) is a way for local communities to propose guidelines for the design of any new development that may take place in their area.
Based on an analysis of the character of the settlement and its surroundings, a VDS adds local detail to existing planning guidance.
It can be adopted by the planning authority as a Supplementary Planning Document and used to help in determining local planning applications.
We have developed an easy guide for communities thinking about producing a Village Design Statement. This describes how to create a simple and practical document for planners, developers and local people to use.
