Assistant Ranger

We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Ranger to join our ranger team.
This role is part of a range of measures designed to mitigate the recreational impacts arising from new housing development and visitor accommodation within the National Park on the New Forest and the Solent/Southampton Water European sites. The mitigation strategy seeks to minimise the impact of visits that are made to designated sites.
You will use our mobile information units, give talks and guided walks, run seasonal activities, attend local events and engage with local communities. There will be resources to prepare, local businesses which need our literature and visitor surveys to do.
You will have:
- knowledge of the natural and cultural heritage of the New Forest National Park
- strong communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to adapt to audience needs
- a valid driving licence
- the ability to work early or late in the day, at weekends and on Bank Holidays, to enable effective engagement with target audiences.
This role is for 3 years with further extensions dependent on funding. It has an office base in Lymington, Hampshire but much time is spent working across the New Forest and just outside the boundary of the National Park.
