Name/Town

Hayley, Lymington/Portsmouth

Areas of Interest/Passions

I have an interest in conservation, ecology and climate change, along with accessibility and inclusivity. Green and blue spaces should be available to everyone, now and for future generations, and a connection to nature is an important tool to be had.

Favourite place in the Forest?

Tanners Lane. I love the beach and being by the sea! I find it so peaceful and calming, and need to prioritise visiting more for the benefits towards my mental and physical health. I also love visiting the Countryside Education Trust and spending time with the animals.

What do I want to get from being a New Forest Youth Board member?

I would like to join a community of like-minded individuals, working together for a common cause, and collectively become a trusted voice for young people within the New Forest and surrounding areas. I’d like to represent and empower youth voice in areas where they need to be heard, such as policy and decision making.

What skills and knowledge would you like to develop?

I’d like to develop my communication skills, specifically public speaking, but also through online communications such as blogs and social media posts. I’d also like to learn how to help amplify marginalised communities and create spaces for voices to be heard.

What skills do I have that could benefit the Youth Board?

I have worked with the National Park Authority for almost two years and have gained a good understanding of local governance. I have worked with Authority members on the creation of the New Forest Youth Board, which I am very proud of, and now I get to be a part of this amazing achievement. I would like to use my influence in my current role under the Youth in Climate and Nature project to make a bigger impact on the things that matter.
