Fran Nicholas, Lyndhurst
Favourite thing about the Forest
My favourite thing about the Forest is you can go on a walk and be in solitude with only nature. If you do meet people, they may give a cheery hello or comment about wildlife they have seen.
Areas of Interest/Passions
My area of interest associated with the New Forest is the wildlife. And we have amazing wildlife all benefiting from the rare and special habitat like the heathland, ancient woodland and wetlands. I also have an interest in action for Climate Change as it will and is having such a negative effect on people and nature.
Favourite place in the Forest?
My favourite place in the New Forest is Pondhead Enclosure, Lyndhurst. It is amazing at all times of year. There are bluebells and birdsong in the Spring, butterflies in the Summer, beautiful tree colours in Autumn and I experienced it covered with snow this Winter.
What I want to get from the Youth Board What skills and knowledge would you like to develop? What skills do I have that could benefit the Youth Board?
From the Youth Board I would like to help represent Youth Voice, because the issues affecting nature today will affect our generation. I would like to continue seeing the amazing wildlife in the New Forest. I don’t want it to disappear in my lifetime due to lack of protection or lack of resilience against Climate Change. I would like to develop leadership skills from being a part of the Youth Board and learn more wildlife survey techniques. I think I have skills such as wildlife ID and practical conservation skills which could benefit the Youth Board.
