How to beat traffic to the New Forest Show

The New Forest Show is back from Tuesday 26 July until Thursday 28 July. Three days of agricultural competitions, show jumping and spectacular displays. But with 95,000 visitors over three days, the traffic queues to the Showground at New Park outside Brockenhurst can be a struggle. Dan and Alex from the New Forest Travel Concierge team are based at Brockenhurst Railway Station to help guide visitors around the Forest and to the Show. Here are their tips on how to beat the traffic, or alternatively you can contact them directly at, tweet them a question @newforesttravel or post a query to

Catching a train is probably the best and quickest way to get to the Show, with easy links to Brockenhurst from Southampton, Bournemouth and beyond. South West Trains are currently running a Summer Promotion, offering day return tickets at £16 for adults and £3 for children. Shuttle buses from Brockenhurst Station to the Showground run every 15 minutes from 7.30am to 7pm, this shuttle is free of charge to all that show their Show ticket, or £3 for an adult and £2 for a child. The journey to the Showground on the bus from Brockenhurst is far quicker than the car journey down the A337 from Lyndhurst. The Showground is less than 2 miles away and a very pleasant walk or cycle ride from Brockenhurst Station. The New Forest Travel Concierge will be on hand at Brockenhurst Station giving out free maps showing the best walking and cycling routes.

Forest Bus

The Forest Bus stops right outside the Showground, picking up passengers hourly from Southampton, Totton, Ashurst, Lyndhurst and Lymington. Local single fares or a Day Rider ticket are available. Take a look at the Forest Bus website for full details and timetables. The open-top New Forest Tour green route can also stop outside the Showground if you want to stop at the Show as part of your day trip.

If you’re within cycling distance, then why not travel by bike to the Show’s back entrance where there are plenty of cycling racks? The best way to get there is to cycle on Rhinefield Road outside Brockenhurst and turn off at Beachern Wood car park (waymarker post 237) for a 10 minute cycle on a quiet country lane and very pleasant off road track past Ober Corner and over Bolderford Bridge to the Showground. Please note this year that the cycle track from Lyndhurst will have car traffic on it, so it may get busy around the Showground entrance. For more information on cycling routes head to

If you’re catching the train to Brockenhurst or live locally then you can enjoy a lovely 40 minute (2 mile) walk through the open heathland of Black Knowl up to Bolderford Bridge and into the Showground. From the train station, walk back to the main road (A337) and turn left on Brookley Road and walk through the centre of the village. At the end of Brookley Road, turn right at the Watersplash ford up Burley Road until you arrive at Meerut Road with the gravel path right in front of you. Follow the path all the way to the Showground.
