Our people

The National Park Authority is governed by members, who have overall responsibility for making decisions, setting the direction of the organisation and ensuring objectives are achieved through the effective use of resources. The 22 members act in the interests of the National Park as whole, representing both the local and national perspective. We have a team of staff employed in a wide variety of roles from planning officers to ecologists, building conservation experts and rangers.

Our work

We are responsible for conserving and enhancing the New Forest and promoting understanding and enjoyment of the things that make it special. We are the local planning authority for the National Park. As well as our nature conservation and visitor information responsibilities, our services include education, recreation and archaeology.

Working for us

We have staff working for us in a range of roles. Some of the jobs are similar to those found in other organisations such as administration, communications and IT. Others are more specific and technical and these jobs may mostly be found in public services or in environmental, conservation or recreation organisations - for example, planners and rangers. We are an equal opportunities employer and we offer good holidays, training and development opportunities, local government pension scheme and a wide range of 'family-friendly' policies and working patterns.
