Woodcock
Woodcock
Woodcocks were spotted on a number of occasions at various Species Survival Fund project sites in the New Forest.
They generally breed in the Forest’s damp woodlands and heathland edges, feeding mainly on earthworms and other invertebrates found in soft soil.
Work undertaken through the project to improve woodland areas and habitats will benefit a whole host of bird species such as the woodcock.
As well as resident breeding woodcocks, the New Forest provides an important habitat migrant ones that arrive from northern and eastern Europe during the winter months.
