The Stripe-winged Dronefly is a common hoverfly found in the New Forest.

It is often mistaken for a honeybee due to its similar colouring and behaviour, but like all hoverflies it is harmless and an important pollinator.

In the New Forest, it can be seen visiting flowers in woodland edges, heathland and gardens, especially from early spring onwards.
