New Forest inclusive cycling charity PEDALL’s summer of fundraising reaches its peak this month with all invited to celebrate cycling at Pass the PEDALL.
Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to New Park Showground, Brockenhurst, on Saturday 26 September to take part in the event – now in its third year. PEDALL aims to reach its 10,000km for £10,000 summer fundraising target and raise awareness of how the charity provides opportunities for all to benefit from cycling in the New Forest.
Last year PEDALL worked with over 50 organisations including schools, colleges and residential care homes, delivering 600 inclusive cycle rides for more than 1,100 people. Many of PEDALL’s riders return week after week, building friendships, confidence and a sense of freedom — something that can be life-changing.
But the charity urgently needs more funds to continue its vital work and maintain its cycles and train and support its volunteers.
On the day, riders will have the chance to add to the charity’s collective distance goal by riding around a one-kilometre track and trying out PEDALL’s fleet of specialist cycles.
There will also be a range of stalls and food and drink options available on-site so everybody can enjoy the day while showing their support for the charity and its community of riders, volunteers, and partners.
Pass the PEDALL is once again sponsored by Chase The Sun, providers of sunrise-to-sunset cycle challenges and long-distance cycling events. Founder Olly Moore will host a kids cycle challenge, encouraging families of all ages across the wider New Forest community to get involved. Participants can join in and pedal as many or as few kilometres as they please and there will stickers and prizes up for grabs too.
So far £6,700 has been raised with 7,775 kilometres ridden. The flagship Pass the PEDALL event is a chance for everybody to contribute and help complete the challenge.
PEDALL’s summer fundraising target – to ride a collective 10,000km and raise £10,000 – began in June with a 100-mile New Forest Loop ride led by a passionate team of PEDALL’s female volunteers cycling through the National Park making stops to connect with the charity’s community including Minstead Trust, Cedars Care Home, and Sway Cycles.
Since then, PEDALL’s volunteers, project team, Friends of PEDALL trustees, and riders at events, have added to the combined total through challenges including the Chase the Sun North 200-mile dawn to dusk ride and a go kart-style loop at New Forest Thrive festival.

‘We’re hugely grateful for every bit of support and from our riders, volunteers, project team, and Friends of PEDALL trustees, helping us raise awareness and funds supporting the work we do so people of all ages and abilities can access cycling in the New Forest National Park.’
New Forest National Park Authority access and learning manager, Jim Mitchell said: ‘Pass the PEDALL is a wonderful event for cyclists of all ages and abilities and a chance to raise vital funds to enable PEDALL to continue providing cycling opportunities for all, supporting groups and individuals with varying accessibility needs and helping people experience the joy and health and wellbeing benefits of cycling in the New Forest.’
Director and founder of Chase The Sun Cycle, Olly Moore said: ‘Pass the PEDALL is a great event, a fun day for the whole family, regardless of cycling ability. Last year we had over fifty youngsters riding relays to cover more than 900km, with loads of fun, smiles and prizes along the way.
