New Forest inclusive cycling charity exceeds summer fundraising goal

A summer of fundraising concluded in a celebration of cycling as PEDALL reached its goal of riding 10,000km and raising over £10,000 with support from the New Forest cycling community.

Last month (26 September), hundreds of riders completed the Pass the PEDALL challenge at New Park, Brockenhurst to raise vital funds for PEDALL – a charity which helps people with various additional support and accessibility needs experience the joy of cycling in the New Forest.

More than 500 people took part in the final event including nine organisations which regularly ride with PEDALL; SCARF New Forest, MENCAP New Forest, Dimensions, Hill House School, Sheiling College and School, Dementia Friendly Hampshire, Achieve Together, and Minstead Trust.

130 children and their families also took part in lead sponsor Chase the Sun’s family challenge. The New Forest Community Police attended and security marked 20 bikes.

Pass the PEDALL marked the end of a summer of fundraising which began with a 100-mile New Forest Loop ride led by a passionate group of PEDALL’s female volunteers. The team cycled through the National Park, making stops to connect with the charity’s community, including Minstead Trust, Cedars Care Home, and Sway Cycles.

Through the challenges, PEDALL, its sponsors and the New Forest cycling community raised more than £15,000, smashing the £10,000 target.

Last year PEDALL worked with over 50 organisations including schools, colleges and residential care homes, delivering 600 inclusive cycle rides for more than 1,100 people. Many of PEDALL’s riders return week after week, building friendships, confidence and a sense of freedom – something that can be life-changing.

But the charity urgently needs more funds to continue its vital work and maintain its cycles, and train and support its volunteers. Donations can still be made at: Pass the Pedall 2026, 10,000 kilometres for £10K – JustGiving

PEDALL – New Forest Inclusive Cycling project manager, Shelley Filby said: ‘We’re here to help everybody to connect with nature and enjoy the wonderful experience of cycling no matter their accessibility needs, but we need support to be able continue offering this vital service.

‘It was great to see so many of our regular riding groups as well as new faces at Pass the PEDALL, it was a wonderful celebration of cycling and the New Forest community.’

New Forest National Park Authority member Adarsh Parekh said: ‘I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in Pass the PEDALL this year. It was a lot of fun and an important reminder of the vital work PEDALL do in helping as many people as possible to access and enjoy the health and wellbeing benefits of cycling in the New Forest National Park.’

Director and founder of Chase The Sun Cycle, Olly Moore said: ‘We are so pleased to have been supporting fundraising for PEDALL again this year. Our Kid’s Chase The Sun challenge entertained more families than ever – with over 130 children relishing riding the forest loops, challenging themselves to pedal for stickers, prizes, and collectively covering more than 1,200km between all the youngsters.’
