Fawley residents invited to comment on updated Neighbourhood Plan

Residents of Fawley are being encouraged to share their views on proposed updates to the Fawley Neighbourhood Plan that will help shape future development in the area.

Neighbourhood Plans are produced by local communities and set out planning policies that guide decisions on planning applications. The emerging draft Neighbourhood Plan is Fawley’s first for the area following its formal designation in early 2024 by the National Park Authority and New Forest District Council.

The new Neighbourhood Plan for Fawley introduces a range of policies that will guide development within the Fawley area according to the vision and aims of the local community. These policies cover Design, Spatial Strategy, Settlement Separation and Landscape Character, Existing and New Local Community Assets, Green Infrastructure, Local Green Spaces, Air Quality and Active Travel. As the Parish Council area falls within both the New Forest National Park and New Forest District Council boundaries, both Authorities have engaged with the Parish Council on the development of the Draft Neighbourhood Plan.

The next stage is a six-week public consultation on the draft Fawley Neighbourhood Plan. People can give their feedback between Friday 03 April 2026 and 5pm on Sunday 17 May 2026. Comments on the draft Fawley Neighbourhood Plan can be submitted via New Forest District Council’s webpage here: https://www.newforest.gov.uk/fawleyplan

Alternatively, comments may be submitted by email to policyandplans@nfdc.gov.uk.

For more information on Neighbourhood Planning within the National Park see: https://www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/planning/neighbourhood-planning/

All comments received will be reviewed by an independent Examiner appointed by the two planning authorities and Fawley Parish Council. If supported by the Examiner, the final stage in producing the Neighbourhood Plan will be a local referendum where Fawley residents will decide whether to adopt the updated Neighbourhood Plan. Once adopted, the Plan will form part of the Development Plan, for both the National Park and New Forest District Council, and will be used as a tool during decision-making to guide development across the New Forest.
