Meet New Forest Youth Board member Josie from Southampton.

Favourite thing about / place in the New Forest?

Seeing the New Forest landscape change over the seasons, especially when the Heather comes to bloom.

It is difficult to decide, but I would have to say Beaulieu Heath, as it is beautiful when all the flowers are out, when you can hear all the bees and the birds, and you can see all kinds of butterflies. (But I do love Bolderwood as well).

What are your areas of interest and passion?

Lichens, Insects, General local Biodiversity, Sustainability, accessibility to the forest, and health of the landscape.

What skills do you have that could benefit the Youth Board?

GIS Skills, Photography Skills, knowledge on EIAs, sampling/surveying skills and General native flora and fauna identification knowledge, team working and organisational skills.

What do you want to get from being a New Forest Youth Board member? What skills and knowledge would you like to develop?

The chance to meet likeminded people, get some work experience and get the chance to spend more time in the New Forest. I would like to work on my Communication and Leadership skills. I would also like to build upon my knowledge on the New Forest habitat specifically, management practices, data collection and conservation skills.
