Josh
Meet New Forest Youth Board member Josh from Verwood.
Favourite thing about / place in the New Forest?
My favourite place in the New Forest is Rhinefield Ornamental Drive. The Giant Redwood Trees always make me feel like I have gone back in time to the age of the dinosaurs!
What are your areas of interest and passion?
I’m sure just like the rest of my fellow members I have a general passion for the conservation and protection of our National Parks. Another one of my passions is engaging with young people and encouraging them to think about green career paths, even ones that are a bit out of the box (like Planning!)
What skills do you have that could benefit the Youth Board?
I have spent the past four years as a youth support worker at my local youth club, gaining a qualification in youth work along the way. I hope to offer my knowledge and experience in engaging with young people and building a positive relationship with the public.
My main career is also as an employee for the National Park Authority, during which I have also worked with other organisations such as RSPB, Forestry England and Bird Aware Solent. My knowledge of the work that these organisations do is also something I bring to the board.
What do you want to get from being a New Forest Youth Board member? What skills and knowledge would you like to develop?
I would like to further my skills in engaging with the public, not just with the youth but with people of all ways of life.
I am also pleased to work with other people with similar values and mindset who all want to work to the collective goal of promoting the youth boards collective voice in the community, ensuring that there is an entity speaking about the issues that affect young people within the National Park
