Coppicing, Conservation & Charcoal

Enjoy a leisurely walk through a unique woodland that was once a royal deer park created within the New Forest by King Edward I. Nowadays, this 190 acre SSSI woodland contains the largest remaining area of coppiced hazel in the New Forest together with an area of ancient deciduous woodland that has remained unchanged for centuries.

During the walk you will learn how Pondhead Conservation Trust are restoring and managing the woodland on a sustainable basis. You will also observe their charcoal kilns and see first hand how charcoal is made on site.
