Join the New Forest & District Beekeepers Association for a hands-on taster day and discover the fascinating world of honey bees. Learn how bees live, how hives are managed, and what’s involved in becoming a beekeeper in a relaxed, beginner-friendly environment.
The New Forest & District Beekeepers Association Taster Day offers a unique opportunity to experience beekeeping first-hand and discover the fascinating world of honey bees. This introductory session is designed for beginners and provides a practical and engaging insight into what beekeeping involves.
During the day, participants will be introduced to bee biology and the lifecycle of the honey bee, gaining an understanding of how colonies function and develop. The session also covers beekeeping best practice and the seasonal beekeeping year, helping attendees understand what is involved in managing bees across different times of the year.
In addition, you will explore the wide range of products produced by bees, including honey, pollen, propolis, wax, and mead, and learn about the equipment required for both the bees and the beekeeper. The day is designed to give a well-rounded overview, combining theory with practical insight to help you decide whether to take beekeeping further.

- There is a charge of £50 for adults; children aged 12 – 16 years of age £25.00, must be accompanied by a full paying parent or guardian.What if I want to go on and do the full training course after?Participants attending the Taster Day, will qualify for a £10 discount, when registering to attend our six evening Beginners Course. What equipment/clothing do I need?Beekeeping jackets/suits and gloves will be provided, you just need to bring wellington boots and wear long, loose trousers. Please bring your own packed lunch. Tea, coffee and cake will be provided.
