An Artist‘s Life in the New Forest

New Forest artist Jeanie Mellersh celebrates her 90th birthday with a retrospective exhibition at Furzey Gardens, Minstead. The exhibition is open daily 10am-4pm from November 24th until December 23rd.

To mark her 90th birthday, Jeanie will present a retrospective exhibition celebrating her long and creative life in the forest. For nearly six decades, the New Forest’s ancient trees, open heathland, shifting light, wildlife and people have been Jeanie’s subject and her creative home.
Known for her sensitive pastel portraits as well as her book illustrations and landscapes, Jeanie moves easily between traditional drawing and painting, iPad-based digital art, sculpture and other 3D forms. Always interested in trying out new ideas and techniques, she sees technology not as a replacement for the artist’s eye and hand, but as a way to extend them.
A flamboyant personality and a generous teacher and mentor, Jeanie has encouraged and inspired generations of fellow artists to enjoy, experiment and keep making art – whatever their age. In her 90th year, Jeanie is still an active and accomplished artist, drawing and painting every day.
