Amble with an Archaeologist at Holmsley

Delve into the history of Holmsley Campsite with a relaxed amble around the site with local archaeologist Helen Wallbridge from Hampshire Community Heritage.

Today, Holmsley Campsite sits in a peaceful woodland, but in WW2 it was a busy RAF base and a hive of activity.

You’ll see aircraft dispersals, follow surviving sections of perimeter track, walk part of the runway and hear stories of the people who served there. Along the way, you’ll pick up archaeological skills for spotting features in the landscape and see how the Forest has reclaimed the site.

Length: 2.4 km (1.5 miles). This is a gentle, family-friendly walk. In dry weather, it should be suitable for mobility scooters. We will walk on concrete and short grass that is uneven in places.

Dogs: Welcome on a short, fixed lead.
