John Muir Award
The John Muir Award is a national environmental award scheme. It encourages people to connect with, enjoy, and care for wild places and the New Forest National Park is the perfect place to do this.
Who is it for?
The John Muir Award is open to people of all backgrounds and you can take part as a group, family or individual.
We work closely with schools, colleges and youth groups to help them plan and work towards the John Muir Award and can even provide tailored sessions free of charge to get you started.
What does it involve?
To achieve a John Muir Award everyone taking part needs to complete four challenges:
- Discover a wild place
- Explore its wildness
- Conserve – take personal responsibility
- Share experiences.
The New Forest National Park has an abundance of safe and easy to access sites and is an ideal place to complete your John Muir Award, helping you to develop an understanding of this special place and enable you to look after it. The Discovery Award requires four days (or equivalent) minimum time commitment and there is no time limit to complete the Award.
