Photography work experience with the NPA
PUBLISHED ON: 14 DECEMBER 2023
My name is Marcus, and I have had three days of work experience at the NPA. During my placement here I have really enjoyed my time. I got to meet lots of people working in the NPA who were all extremely welcoming, very friendly and able to give me a really good introduction to what work at the NPA would be like. All of the staff immediately befriended me and I was able to work alongside them as if I had been long-time staff already.
I am a second year college student at Brockenhurst college undertaking a level 3 extended diploma in photography meaning all the skills that I had learnt over the past couple of years were able to finally be put to the test with this week’s work experience. I was challenged with different shoots, trying to find the best area to take photos or when to take them. I was offered help if I needed it and I was also able to use the company’s own equipment had I needed it.
My work experience began with an induction, giving me a tour of the office, which is very easy to memorise, as well as my timetable and other sorts of things I needed to know which were all very informative. I travelled out around the New Forest, taking photos of various things: landscapes, animals, people etc. This was a great way to meet new people, acquire connections and make friends. I went to a meetup with lots of rangers out in the forest, I learnt a lot about their plans for the forest and how to combat the challenges they face which was very interesting to listen to.
My final day consisted of post production and write ups, which might sound uneventful but the office is a very comfortable environment to work in. Everyone was very friendly and loved to offer help and guidance when needed. I was able to use my skills to benefit the company greatly, none of my work went to waste and all of the staff were very happy with the outcomes I had produced
Since I have always been fascinated by nature, being able to work with the NPA has been a perfect experience to assist me in welcoming me to the world of work as well as the area I would like to work in. I had lots of great opportunities with plenty of hands on experience, overall letting me find out what work here would be like.
Below are some photos I took during my time with the NPA:
