New Forest Artist in Residence Dean Kelland presents ‘Finding Julian’

Artist Dean Kelland returns to SPUD this October with Finding Julian, a new exhibition developed during his New Forest Artist Residency in May.

Inspired by the 1978 television adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five, Dean’s work follows a search for Julian across significant New Forest locations connected to the series.

Through film, photography and performance, Finding Julian explores how places hold memories and stories, and how cultural characters can shape our ideas of identity, childhood and home.

Dean’s residency included conversations with local people, including members of the Men’s Group at Mind in New Milton, as well as historian Tim Venning of the Enid Blyton Society.

The exhibition offers a new perspective on the New Forest, bringing together its landscapes, cultural history and the fictional world of The Famous Five.
