Getting to know fungi

This walk will teach you how to examine and learn the basics about fungal identification, so a x10 or greater magnification hand lens (magnifier) is advised. You will also learn about their ecology and the vital role that they play in nature.

The walking distance is not very far as there is much stopping, examining and sniffing of the fungal fruiting bodies (mushrooms). These walks are open to anyone who has an interest in fungi but are not foraging walks.

This starts at Millyford Bridge car park which will be examined first before heading north along the track (be aware of cyclists) for about half a mile, then returning. The surrounding woodlands will be examined and will be different when we go into the inclosure where pines are more usual. Don’t forget to look at tree trunks, branches above your heads and fallen logs.
