SOLD OUT – Getting to know Fungi

This walk will teach you how to examine and learn the basics about fungal identification, so a x10 or greater magnification hand lens (magnifier) is advised. You will also learn about their ecology and the vital role that they play in nature.

The walking distance is not very far as there is much stopping, examining and sniffing of the fungal fruiting bodies (mushrooms). These walks are open to anyone who has an interest in fungi but are not foraging walks.

This event starts at Pig Bush car park, then we head south through the woodland, spreading out a bit and searching both the leaf litter and the trees themselves. On emerging onto the heathland at the far end, we turn right to examine the different species that grow in this area, then round in a circle and back to the car park (c. half a mile total) and on level ground. For those who want more, we can then move (in cars) to the Drift Hotel about a mile northwest and examine the car park area in the pinewood which abounds with pine-related fungi.
