Hampshire County Council A338 Road Crossing Briefing Document

Plans are proposed for an uncontrolled pedestrian and cycle crossing on the A338 near Fryern Court Road, linking to the upgraded Breamore rail path and supporting travel to Fordingbridge and nearby new housing. The scheme includes dropped kerbs and a refuge island to create a two-stage crossing, a shared-use pavement connecting the crossing to the rail path, and relocation of the northbound bus stop to improve visibility. The project aims to improve safety and accessibility, continue the shared-use route across the A338, and help reduce vehicle speeds by narrowing the road. It also supports future cycle route development, including Primary Cycle Route 100 between Woodgreen and Burgate. Current activity includes surveys, design investigations, drainage maintenance, and coordination with Pennyfarthing Homes. Design is expected to complete in Autumn/Winter 2026, with construction starting in Spring 2027.
