Forestry England

Forestry England is a division of the Forestry Commission, responsible for managing and promoting publicly owned forests in England.

Our mission is to connect everyone with the nation’s forests by creating and caring for our forests for people to enjoy, wildlife to flourish and businesses to grow.

We’ve built over 1,800 miles of walking, running and cycling trails, supplying England’s largest amount of sustainably-sourced timber, and conserving the homes of thousands of plants and animals.

If you enjoy the outdoors, want to learn new skills, meet new people and be part of our amazing volunteering team.

We have a wide range of opportunities available in New Forest and also across England you can get stuck into, like practical conservation, education events, maintenance of walking and mountain bike trails and vegetation management. Or how about helping out at our visitor information points, meeting and greeting visitors, helping to lead events, doing wildlife surveys or answering enquiries in the office?

Volunteering is an excellent way for you to meet people and learn new skills while helping us care for our beautiful forest. We have two volunteering schemes in the New Forest including our Two Trees Conservation Team and our National Shadow Volunteer Scheme. Interested in being a volunteer with us?

The Two Trees Conservation Group provides regular voluntary conservation tasks throughout the New Forest from October to March. We also have a National Shadow Volunteer scheme.

If you are thinking about a career in forestry you may be interested in our Shadow Volunteer scheme; taking place in the nation’s forests across England, Shadow Volunteers are given training, experience and development opportunities by work shadowing Forestry England staff. The scheme runs for six months, one to three days a week.
