Virtual John Muir Family Award – Summer 2021
Why not sign up for the John Muir Family Award this summer?
The past few months have been hard on everyone, but it is amazing how getting into nature can help us feel more positive and uplifted – especially during the warmer summer months.
What is the John Muir Award?
The John Muir Award is a FREE environmental award scheme which encourages people to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places.
The award is broken down into four challenges:
- Discover – your wild place
- Explore – its wilderness
- Conserve – take personal responsibility
- Share – your experience with others
There are different levels to the award and we will be focusing on the Discovery Award.
The Discovery Award requires 25 hours of input but don’t let that scare you; taking a walk can count as well as researching. It all adds up!
It doesn’t matter the size of your location, it could be a planter, your garden, your local green space or the National Park. However, please comply with all Covid-19 guidelines and regulations.
On completion of the award, your family will be awarded the John Muir Discovery Award certificate to celebrate your achievement.
What to expect
We are here to support you on the journey of taking part in the John Muir Award.
Each week, we will be sending out a newsletter full of inspiring nature-based activities that you may wish to do in your own local space. You will also learn about John Muir and the New Forest National Park that will contribute towards the John Muir Award.
There will be six newsletters in total, starting from Monday 26 July until Monday 30 August.
Here’s a short video to briefly explain what’s involved:
