Holmsley Rail Bridge Inspection – essential road closure

Press release from Hampshire County Council:

Hampshire County Council will be carrying out an essential inspection of Holmsley Rail Bridge near Burley on Friday 17 April 2020 as part of the bridge’s ongoing maintenance programme.

To ensure the safety of the public and those working on site, Station Road (the road that runs underneath the bridge) will need to be closed between 9.30am and 4.00pm that day for the inspection’s duration, and a diversion route will in place.

Councillor Rob Humby, Hampshire County Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Transport, said: ‘We have plans in place to replace the bridge in 2021/22. Until this work takes place, inspections need to be carried out regularly to monitor the existing bridge’s condition. In light of the current coronavirus situation the engineers undertaking the work will take appropriate precautions and will adhere to government guidelines on social distancing while they are on site.

‘We urge drivers undertaking essential journeys to follow the diversion route and avoid cutting across minor roads, such as Holmsley Passage. Any increase in two-way traffic on these minor roads will lead to damage to the verges which are part of the protected environment of New Forest National Park.’

The footpath and bridleway under the bridge will also be closed during these times.
