Free admission to New Forest Centre museum

Free admission to New Forest Centre museum

Owned and run by the New Forest Ninth Centenary Trust, which is a charity, the Centre in Lyndhurst already offers free admission to children under 16 but has extended this to include all visitors from the beginning of February 2016.

‘The Museum contains a wealth of knowledge about the New Forest and its heritage and we would like as many people as possible to benefit from this information, whether they are just paying a short visit to the area or have lived here for many years,’ said New Forest Centre Manager Hilary Marshall.

‘We want to make sure this resource is widely available to the community. As we are a charity we rely on donations to run the Centre and hope visitors will be just as generous now we are offering free admission.’

As well as a museum, the Centre also contains the New Forest Gallery, a well-stocked gift shop and is home to the New Forest Visitor Information Centre. Opened in 1988 by the Duke of Edinburgh the Museum was refurbished in 2003 and includes many family activities including a huge family fun tree in the centre of the building.

Conveniently located next to the main car park in Lyndhurst, the Centre runs a packed programme of exhibitions and events for all ages throughout the year including regular family Discovery Days in the school holidays.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are also welcome in the building.
