Winchester

Heritage

Winchester, to the north-east of the New Forest National Park, is a destination for all seasons. England's ancient capital is best known for its eleventh century cathedral and mysterious Round Table.

Despite its relatively compact nature, Winchester is a treasure trove of English heritage. The city offers numerous historic buildings, monuments and museums waiting to be explored.

Winchester is the gateway to the South Downs, and the surrounding countryside is dotted with picturesque market towns and villages.

Entertainment and Culture

Culture lovers will find plenty to occupy them in Winchester. The city has a wealth of accomplished artists, designers and crafts-people working and living in the area. There is a host of arts festivals and a range of popular live performance venues.

Winchester is a city for all ages: there are many exciting attractions and things for families to see and do. There's a steam railway, zoological park, an interactive science and discovery centre, ancient buildings and plenty of open spaces and well-planned rural paths to explore.

Shopping

The city offers an array of independent shops, boutiques and art galleries in scenic settings. The city's compact, pedestrian-friendly streets are a refreshing alternative to the large-scale malls found in other cities, and they make the city the perfect destination for a lazy day's wandering.
