Volunteering in the New Forest National Park
For many years, numerous organisations have been active within what is now the New Forest National Park ensuring its precious wildlife habitats, local customs and historical value are conserved and enhanced. Much of the work is done by volunteers who give freely of their time and skills to ensure the National Park continues to thrive as a unique site for all to enjoy.
The New Forest National Park was designated in 2005 and the National Park Authority took up its full responsibilities in 2006. As yet the Authority has limited ability to involve volunteers in its work, but encouraging people to take positive, personal action to conserve the special qualities of the National Park is a key aim. We are pleased therefore, to provide information on volunteering opportunities with other organisations that involve volunteers in either the practical conservation of the National Park or in helping people enjoy and understand its special qualities.
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes! Whatever your interests and abilities, there is room for you to play your part. You will also find that there are huge benefits to you: useful skills and experience, increased knowledge of the National Park, new friends with similar interests, good exercise and the satisfaction in knowing that you are doing something to help!
