Aren’t Birds Brilliant in the New Forest

This project has now finished for 2008 and has proved to be a big success, with over 19,000 visitors to the Reptile Centre. Many more followed the action on the internet nest-cam.

Our live wide-screen showed the action unfolding in the nest from eggs hatching, to prey arriving and chicks leaving. The goshawks successfully raised three chicks and the hobbies raised one.

Volunteers at the centre related the story of the birds to visitors, and also talked about the National Park’s ground-nesting birds and why they are special.

For more information on ground nesting birds and how you can help you can download our leaflet.

We hope that ‘Aren’t birds brilliant in the New Forest’ will return in 2009. Watch this space for more information.

Aren’t birds brilliant in the New Forest is a partnership project between the National Park Authority, the RSPB, the Forestry Commission and Carnyx Films. The project has been part funded by the Authority's Sustainable Development Fund.
