New Forest National Park Design Guide

Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)

The New Forest National Park Design Guide Supplementary Planning Document was adopted by the Authority on 15 December 2011. The Design Guide becomes a key part of the Authority's Local Development Framework. As a Supplementary Planning Document, it conforms with, and supplements many of the policies set out in the Authority's Core Strategy and Development Policies DPD (December 2010). It is a material consideration in the determination of planning applications and applies throughout the whole of the National Park.

The Guide aims to achieve high standards of design in new development while retaining and enhancing the distinctive character of the natural and built environment. It is intended to help support the pre-application process by providing guidance to assist applicants, agents and others to respond to the features and rural characteristics that make the New Forest special when designing their proposals.
