Join the family fun at New Forest National Park’s Greener Living Show

Over 50 stalls and activities to help you ‘go green’ will ensure a day of family fun at the Greener Living Show this Sunday (8 May).

The New Forest National Park is teaming up with IKEA and Sandy Balls Holiday Centre to help people take small steps to care for the environment.

The Greener Living Show will be held at the holiday centre near Fordingbridge this Sunday, from 10am to 4pm.

Attractions include the IKEA sustainability roadshow, local food and crafts, children’s activities, a chance to learn about the latest renewable technologies, plus a wide range of stalls and demonstrations.

BBC Radio Solent will be broadcasting from the event on the day, with Gardeners’ Question Time coming from the Show.

Entry is free to the event. Last year over 800 people attended the Show and found out money-saving tips and how to improve their health as well as caring for the environment.

New Forest National Park Chief Executive Alison Barnes said: ‘There are a great range of stalls at the show this year with something for everyone. If you need inspiration about how we can all make small changes in our everyday lives to have a positive impact on the environment, the Greener Living Show is the place to be. I am really pleased to be working with so many different organisations for what promises to be a great day out.'

Mark Sokol, IKEA Southampton’s Community and Sustainability Specialist will be on hand to help people live a more sustainable lifestyle.

He said: ‘Sustainability is at the heart of the IKEA ethos and we hope that by helping our customers to take small steps to improve the environment on a local scale, we can collectively have a global impact. Our Never Ending List products help people to live a sustainable life at home and we'll be demonstrating how people can make a difference.'

Speaking outside an 'eco lodge' fitted with water and energy-saving devices, Sandy Balls Operations Director Brett Turner said: ‘Sandy Balls has traditionally always practiced sustainable living. As a business, reducing costs through sustainable practices makes absolute sense and we were therefore very pleased to have been asked to host the Greener Living Show at Sandy Balls.’

The Greener Living Show has something for all ages. Supported by New Forest District Council, schools in the New Forest have been invited to take part in a design competition.
