Children enjoy National Park celebration

Dozens of children celebrated National Parks’ Week yesterday at the New Forest Centre in Lyndhurst.

The ‘Discover your National Park’ day was part of a series of events to mark the 60 anniversary of the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act, 1949.

Children from all over the New Forest were spoilt with a day of walks and activities around the New Forest Centre, as well as searching for archaeological treasures and getting up close and personal to a real Iron Age skull.

Jim Mitchell, Interpretation Officer, said: ‘We wanted to arrange an event that involved children exploring and learning about the National Park and finding out about its rich history and wildlife. The New Forest Centre is the perfect location to do that.’
