Next stage of the draft Plans unveiled

If you responded directly to the New Forest National Park Authority draft Plans,a letter will soon be landing on your doorstep.

Director of Strategy and Planning, Richard Lemon, is writing to everyone who directly responded to the National Park Plan consultation. The letter outlines the results of the initial analysis, how the Authority will be reviewing the Plan and who will be involved.

The next stage will be to organise a series of working groups and workshops with key groups, covering the issues that emerged from public consultation on the Plan that ended in November.  Each working group will be led by an Authority member.

The aim is to revise the Park Plan for approval by the Authority in May. This will include a full report of the consultation process.

The part of the Park Plan that forms the Local Development Framework Core Strategy will then be the subject of a further six-week public consultation prior to submission to the Government. Further information about this stage of the process is included in the letter.

Richard Lemon, Director of Strategy and Planning, said: ‘We wanted to write to everyone who took the time to contact the Authority directly with their comments and to let them know the broad outcome of the consultation and what the next stages are.

‘The Plan raised some contentious issues and we want to work with resident groups, parish councils, businesses, organisations, interest groups and local authorities to make the Park Plan a document that sets the right vision and objectives, and contains policies which protect and manage the National Park for the next 20 years.

‘When the working groups and workshops have finished, I intend to write to everyone again to keep them informed about the emerging changes that will be proposed and the next stages.

The letter also provides information on the response to the consultation on the draft Recreation Management Strategy from Steve Trotter, Director of Conservation, Recreation and Sustainable Development. This will go through a similar process but will be taken to the full Authority for formal approval after the framework provided by the Park Plan has been approved.

The letter is also available to view on the Authority’s website www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/national_park_plan
