'Dream view' photography competition winners 2010
Welcome to the gallery of the winners and runners-up from the 2010 annual photography competition.
Winner Jason Chalk - Mr. and Mrs. Donk
‘This is my “dream view” because it signifies the warmth and welcoming ambience I receive from the wildlife whilst visiting the New Forest.’
About the 1st prize winner the judges said: ‘Many people featured the New Forest’s famous animals in their dream views, but few thought to find such an eye-catching angle. This photograph makes you smile and puts you in mind of the many happy hours you can spend sharing the Forest with its pony and donkey residents.
Second prize Colin Roberts - Land of Mist
‘The combination of light, mist and sky gave a dream-like quality to Beaulieu Heath making it my” dream view”. For me, sights like this portray the wilderness of the New Forest at its best.’
About the 2nd prize winner the judges said: ‘Simply a classic and worthy of being anyone’s “dream view” of the Forest. This image speaks of tranquillity and the natural beauty of watching the sun rise or set over the Forest behind a lone tree wrapped in a blanket of mist.
Third prize Peter Power - Cat spies a dragonfly
‘Sometimes an ideal or “dream view” can just mean a marvellous New Forest landscape. However by exploring the landscape more closely another world is revealed, one that is better known to animals. In this photograph my cat Martin has crept up silently behind a dragon fly.
‘The image was taken in a field next to my house on a sunny afternoon.‘
About the 3rd prize winner the judges said: ‘A brilliantly captured moment that combines both wildlife and a domestic scene with a touch of humour. It shows that some dream views can be found very close to home in the New Forest.

Under 16 Chloe Hinton - Sunrise Horses
‘The frosty background represents the cold winter we had last year, however the horses look happy and content and don’t seem to mind. The background behind is typical New Forest and I think this is a perfect “dream view”. The pony is probably the most common New Forest animal that roams freely.’
About the under-16 winner the judges said: ‘We see many pictures of New Forest ponies but this one really stood out because of the way it seems to capture the ponies’ personalities against the beautiful frosty backdrop.’
