Summertime photos of the New Forest could win photographers great prizes as the National Park’s photo competition returns.

The Seasonal Snaps contest run by the New Forest National Park Authority highlights the beautiful landscape and rich culture of the Forest and encourages people to care for the area. More than 190 photos were entered last summer, with over 7,000 votes being cast.

Four winners will be chosen by a public vote, which will be open throughout the competition on the National Park Authority’s Facebook page, and an additional judges’ pick will also be chosen. The results will be announced on 18 August and the five chosen entries will win one of several exciting prizes, kindly donated by local businesses:

Entries can be submitted on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram from 4 to 18 August and anyone can take part, whether you are an expert photographer or a snap-happy amateur.

Photos need to capture summer in the Forest, perhaps the striking purple heather, foals sunbathing or your family enjoying a visit to your favourite spot.

Barry Rickman, New Forest National Park Authority member, said: ‘Summer is a fantastic time to be out and about in the New Forest exploring as the heather starts to spread across the landscape and foals can be seen playing in the sun.

‘It’s a great time to take a moment to carefully compose a prize-winning photo and share your love of this special place. Social media provides a great space for people to come together and this competition encourages people of all ages to join us in celebrating the New Forest in summer, hopefully inspiring others to care for the area. Good luck!’

Entering the competition takes only a couple of minutes and the process is very simple:

1. Post a new picture on Instagram or Twitter with #summersnaps17, or upload your snap at

2. Visit the Authority’s Facebook page to view all the photos and get your friends to vote for your entries.
