Over 7,000 people kicked off the festive season by supporting local businesses at the New Forest Christmas Fair.

This year’s fair took place on 6 and 7 December at Hoburne Bashley holiday park in New Milton, and the new location received a resounding thumbs up from visitors and traders alike. The park offered several benefits, including all-weather parking, marshmallow toasting in the woods and a performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.

The two day event saw shoppers and their families enjoy over 90 stalls of local crafts and produce, a visit from Santa, carols from a brass band and winter storytelling.

Stallholders at the event, including many New Forest Marque members, reported excellent trading with some having to go back to base to re-stock. The New Forest Marque is a quality assurance scheme supported by the New Forest National Park Authority. The Marque promotes authentic New Forest fare of the highest quality, and encourages people to shop locally.

New Forest Marque chairman Jane Overall said: 'We’re delighted that the fair was popular once again, and that it proved a profitable weekend for our members and other small, local businesses in the run up to Christmas.

‘It was a difficult decision to move the fair’s location only a couple of weeks before the event, but thanks to the wonderful staff at Hoburne Bashley it proved to be the right choice. Visitors benefited from all-weather parking as well as enjoying lots of additional activities and entertainment for all ages.

‘We’d like to thank Hoburne Bashley for hosting the event, and everybody else who worked so hard to make the fair a success for the third year running.’

The New Forest Christmas Fair is organised by the New Forest Marque, New Forest National Park Authority and the New Forest Show Society.
