New Forest Marque member Paws Deli is producing handmade pet treats of such high quality that even humans can eat them, leading to recognition from a prestigious local awards scheme.

The Lymington-based business won the innovation and entrepreneurship category at the New Forest Brilliance in Business Awards 2014 during a ceremony at Carey’s Manor Hotel, Brockenhurst.

The annual awards, organised by the New Forest Business Partnership (NFBP) and supported by the New Forest National Park Authority, includes seven categories focused on specialist areas including entrepreneurship, innovation and green policies.

Paws Deli is a proud member of the New Forest Marque, a quality assurance scheme supported by the National Park Authority that promotes authentic New Forest fare of the highest quality, while encouraging people to shop locally.

The family business has a stall at regular farmers markets in Winchester, Romsey and Ringwood, as well as selling at major local events such as the New Forest Show. The emphasis is on using local ingredients to produce freshly-baked treats, which are dispatched on the same day if ordered online.

Alison Slingo from Paws Deli said: ‘I’m thrilled to have won this award as recognition for all of the hard work and dedication we have put into the company.

‘Building up a business is not easy, but being a part of the New Forest Marque has really helped. Being a Marque member makes it easier to form great business links with fantastic quality suppliers, helping us source seasonal and fresh ingredients and providing us with just the start we needed as a small business.’

There was also success for WP Group, which won the New Forest National Park Authority Sustainable Business Award, as well as being named Business of the Year. The awards were in recognition of the work the fuel distributor has undertaken over the last 12 months to reduce its energy consumption and environmental impact.

New Forest Business Partnership Chairman, Rob Dewing, said: ‘The high standard of entries to the awards again highlights the quality of business and innovation taking place within the New Forest, making it such an exciting place to do business.’
