Have your say on proposed New Forest bike hire system

National Park Authority members are discussing whether a public bike hire system would be right for the south east of the Forest and as part of the process are asking the public for their views.

There will be two public drop-in sessions next week between 6pm and 8.30pm:

  • Lyndhurst Community Centre on Monday 28 July
  • Brockenhurst Village Hall, on Wednesday 30 July.

People are also invited to complete an online survey at www.newforestnpa.gov.uk/publicbikeshare.

If the scheme goes ahead, there could be about 20 docking stations – which would be on private land, and subject to planning permission – and up to 250 bikes.

However, this detail is yet to be determined, and will be influenced by feedback from the public and the views of National Park Authority members.

The aim of the scheme would be to provide an alternative method of transport for residents and visitors to get around the National Park, reducing the impact of excessive traffic by providing a network of sensitively-designed bike hire stations within the grounds of accommodation, attractions and transport links.
